This weekend was an adventure full of firsts. On Thursday I got to meet my Auntie Andrea and her boyfriend Nick for the first time. On Friday (after Tae kwon do) we left to go on my first road trip. We went on a 3 hour drive to Burlington Vermont. This was my first time going to Vermont and I slept the whole 3 hour drive up. The next day most of the group went for a bicycle ride down the bike trail, but my mom, grandma, and me walked around Lake Champlain and checked out the board walk. When everyone got back from the bike ride, we went and took a tour of the Magic Hat Brewery. Again this was a first for me, my first Brewery (my Dad liked that!). Later in the night we went back to the board walk and I got to watch my first sunset. On Sunday we went to a blown glass studio and for the first time I got to watch someone make a figurine. Then we went to the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory for a tour and.... yes you guessed it, another first for me. I got to try some ice cream for the first time. The ice cream they gave us on the tour was Strawberry Bliss, an ice cream that they have not yet released to the public. It was strawberry flavored with chocolate fudge swirls and white chocolate chunks. I didnt know what to think when my mom put some on my lips. It was good but cold and I was not sure what to do, but I did like it and continued to lick my lips and hand for a while after. The weekend was full of excitement and I had a blast! I posted some pictures below of my journey. Check them out and leave me a message. Tell me what you think of my weekend!!
Today I had to go back to my Pediatrician for my 2 month check up. They told me that my head was normal size at 50th percentile. I weighed 13lbs 1 ounce and was in the 68th percentile for weight. I am now 25 inches tall and in the 99th percentile for my height. I also had to get 2 shots today. One in each leg. One was called Pneumococcal. This shot was given subcutaneously (under the skin). The other shot is called Pentacel and it had to be given intermuscular (deep into the muscle). At first my Specialist and my Pediatrician said that both shots should be given to me subcutaneously because of my Hemophilia, but my mother went on-line and looked up both shots and found on the FDA website that the Pentacel has to be intermuscular. She called my Specialist and walked them through how to get to that page and then they had to call us back. After a few hours the nurse called back and said they researched it and found that what my mother had brought to their attention was true and now it will be a new problem for kids with Hemophilia. The shot changed because they added new medicines to it. One of the preservatives they put in it now irritates the skin and can not be given subcutaneously anymore. So when I went to the Doctor I had to get one shot in each leg. Right after the shots my mother had to hold ice on one leg, while my father had to hold ice on the other leg. I did get a red spot on both legs but the next day they were lighter and the day after that they were gone. So far so good!!!
Today my dad took me in the pool. I have never been in the pool before (only the bathtub) and I had alot of fun. I am too little to swim by my self so we got a big crab "pool" for me to go in. This is a kids pool that you fill up and can go in on the ground. Only my dad decided to blow it up and float it in the pool at my grandparents house. The water was too cold for me so dad went in the house and filled up a 25 gallon water jug (you know, the big yellow ones that you see alot on construction sites) with warm water and poured it into the crab. Now the only problem was, how do I hang out in my new pool without swallowing all the water. So my mom told my dad to get the tube for little kids and dad layed me down in it. So now I was in a tube, inside a heated crab pool, inside a real cold big pool. This was great, I loved it. The top of the crab kept the sun off of me and I could float around and enjoy the nice day. The water inside my crab kept getting cold and my dad had to keep pouring the warm water in so I would not freeze. We had alot of fun in the pool and I can't wait till I can go in again!!
