Today I had to go back to my Pediatrician for my 2 month check up. They told me that my head was normal size at 50th percentile. I weighed 13lbs 1 ounce and was in the 68th percentile for weight. I am now 25 inches tall and in the 99th percentile for my height. I also had to get 2 shots today. One in each leg. One was called Pneumococcal. This shot was given subcutaneously (under the skin). The other shot is called Pentacel and it had to be given intermuscular (deep into the muscle). At first my Specialist and my Pediatrician said that both shots should be given to me subcutaneously because of my Hemophilia, but my mother went on-line and looked up both shots and found on the FDA website that the Pentacel has to be intermuscular. She called my Specialist and walked them through how to get to that page and then they had to call us back. After a few hours the nurse called back and said they researched it and found that what my mother had brought to their attention was true and now it will be a new problem for kids with Hemophilia. The shot changed because they added new medicines to it. One of the preservatives they put in it now irritates the skin and can not be given subcutaneously anymore. So when I went to the Doctor I had to get one shot in each leg. Right after the shots my mother had to hold ice on one leg, while my father had to hold ice on the other leg. I did get a red spot on both legs but the next day they were lighter and the day after that they were gone. So far so good!!!
